Cabrillo Music Theatre Gears up for Fourth Annual Dance Marathon Fundraiser
Professional, regional theater company hosts 24-hour marathon to raise funds to support its community programs
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (August 1, 2017) For its fourth year, Cabrillo Music Theatre, the resident, professional theatre production company of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, is hosting a 24-hour dance marathon its biggest yearly fundraiser to raise financial support for its community outreach programs. The marathon will take place August 18-19 from 5 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.
The event benefits the company’s outreach programs such as Adopt-A-School and Kabrillo Kids, as well as its outreach to the military and American Sign Language accessible performances.
To participate in the fundraiser, those dancing are encouraged to ask friends, family and supporters to sponsor their efforts with a flat donation, or a per-hour donation. There is no minimum requirement for how long participants dance, whether it be one hour, or all 24. The dancer who raises the most funds will receive four annual Park Hopper Passes to Disneyland and California Adventure. Prizes for runners-up include complimentary theatre season tickets, annual passes to Universal Studios Hollywood and beyond.
In order to sustain the dancers through the 24-hour period, there will be a snack bar, themed hours, professional DJs, and choreography from Cabrillo Music Theatre’s Evita, Sister Act and Peter Pan, taught by choreographer Cheryl Baxter and dance captain Amanda Carr.
We have an absolute blast with the dance party, said Will North, managing director of Cabrillo Music Theatre. Last year was the first year I had the joy of participating. It’s such an excellent way to bring the community together in a fun way to raise support for our community programs. We owe a big thanks to our sponsors for allowing the company to host the marathon year after year.
This year’s dance marathon sponsors include Hillcrest Center for the Arts, DJ Barry Cohen, Thousand Oaks DJ Company, 11H Entertainment, LaGuardia Productions, Lynne Garvin, Idavis Garcia, Christy Rosen, Cheryl Baxter and Amanda Carr.
