Cabrillo Music Theatre presents the regional and Civic Arts Plaza debut of SISTER ACT! SISTER ACT is the feel-amazing musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (NEWSIES, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS), this uplifting musical was nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It’s Philadelphia in the 1970s, and when disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but in doing so, blows her cover. Damn Yankees

Cabrillo’s Fall Classic! You’ve been asking for us to bring back DAMN YANKEES, last performed here in 1996! Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate, for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life he’s left behind. Colorful characters, smashing dance numbers, and songs including “Whatever Lola Wants,” “You Gotta Have Heart,” and “The Good Old Days,” are show highlights. DAMN YANKEES ran for over 1,000 performances on Broadway, enjoyed a successful film version and a popular Broadway revival, and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Light, fast-paced and devilishly clever, DAMN YANKEES promises to start the 2015-2016 season with a Home Run!

Featuring tuneful, Tony-winning songs (Tomorrow,It’s a Hard Knock Life, Easy Street), ANNIE has been made into two movies, and is about to go back to Broadway for the third time. The music of the legendary Johnny Cash comes to the Kavli stage in this Thousand Oaks premiere of RING OF FIRE. Guys and Dolls

Guys are gambling, dolls are dancing, and the audience comes up a winner with the revered GUYS AND DOLLS. Colorful characters abound, as suave Sky Masterston wages a bet on whether he can woo the buttoned up Sister Sarah Brown. Sky makes the bet with shifty Nathan Detroit, who puts the crap game ahead of his long-suffering fianc’e, Adelaide, to whom he’s been engaged for 14 years. We’re going to raise the roof with treasured songs that include Luck Be A Lady, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, I’ve Never Been In Love Before, and the title tune. Winner of 9 Tony Awards, plus three Broadway revivals, GUYS AND DOLLS has spawned a hit movie, with a new film version on the way. Irving Berlin’s: White Christmas

Straight from Broadway to your Backyard, Cabrillo Music Theatre brings to the stage IRVING BERLIN’S: WHITE CHRISTMAS. Having just completed its Broadway run, Cabrillo will open this Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza premiere Christmas weekend, 2009. IRVING BERLIN’S: WHITE CHRISTMAS is based on the beloved film starring Bing Crosby and featuring Danny Kaye as veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, a successful song-and dance duo post World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow two beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. The lavish production features elaborate dance, splendid costumes, and Irving Berlin’s 1942 Academy Award Winner Best Original Song, White Christmas. Following in the success of last season’s BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO, Cabrillo Music Theatre presents another Civic Arts Plaza memory-lane premiere. It’s a non-stop cavalcade of musical memories from the ’40s. Mistaken identities, madcap comedy, and the greatest musical treasures of the 1940’s fill this sweet and hilarious show. Three soldiers find themselves giving the performance of a lifetime when a certain singing trio of siblings fail to arrive at their USO gig. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, On A Slow Boat To China, Shoo Shoo Baby, and Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree are favorites in this valentine to World War II heroes. The Ovation Award-winning THE ANDREWS BROTHERS is complete with slapstick comedy, old-fashioned romance, and nostalgic music. Recommended for families and all audiences.

A down-and-out floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a special talent… an insatiable appetite for fresh blood. “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing plant that offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature preparing for global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who redefined the animated musical film with Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin. This show captivates audiences time and time again with toe-tapping hits including You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me, We’re In The Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo, and Forty-Second Street.

Cats

July 24 – August 2, 2009

Our 2009 summer sensation, ran 18 years on Broadway, record setting 21 years in London, won 7 Tony Awards, and is the longest running tour in American theatre history. CATS tells a story of the annual ritual of the Jellicle cats.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Featuring the hit songs of legendary musician Neil Sedaka, Cabrillo presents this West Coast premiere of BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO. This high energy musical begins on Labor Day weekend in 1960, when two friends from Brooklyn seek romance and good times at a Catskills resort. Watch as the barbaric King and the lovely Anna transcend and ultimately integrate diverse cultures in this fascinating tale set in the stunningly gorgeous Siam. The dazzling score features musical classics such as Shall We Dance, Getting To Know You, I Whistle A Happy Tune, and Hello, Young Lovers. Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production of this beautiful tale features a special appearance by members of the Pacific Festival Ballet in the famed, “The Small House of Uncle Thomas”.
